Your Office Job Could be Taking Years off Your Life.

We usually write about athletes and people who are as crazy about fitness as we are. But we know that many of you work long hours, sometimes sitting at a desk for more than 12 hours a day.

We cannot stress enough how important it is that you get up from your desk and move! We also know that no matter how much we stress the importance of mobility, you’re probably thinking that you “don’t have time during work.” Of course, this is just an excuse. You do have time for mobility! Even in the middle of a busy day.

For all you desk jockeys out there here are some great tips for adding mobility to your day:

You Don’t Even Have to Leave Your Chair!

Sit on the edge of your chair. Sitting back in a deep comfy slouch is a great way to develop poor posture, weak abs and a loose butt. (No one wants a loose butt!) Scoot forward so that your rear end is merely perched on the edge of your chair, pull in your stomach, roll back your shoulders and squeeze your shoulder blades together.

This “sitting straight and tall” will keep your back from aching and your mind alert.

Try Standing Up.

This sounds so simple, you’ll wonder why you hadn’t already thought of it!  Shake up your day and your body by taking your calls standing up. The person on the other end of the phone has no idea  what your are doing while you talk so you might as well fit in a little “me time” the next time you are on the phone.

stand up for your calls and benefit your body while you do business.

If you’re feeling adventerous, an even better way to have a little “me time” on the phone is to take your calls while doing a wall squat. Nothing like building a stronger butt, core and back while getting work done.

Stand on One Leg.

It might sound silly, but keeping your balance in check is vital to your health.

Osteoporosis and fractures are often thought of as only a “women’s problem,” but the truth is that 2 million men in this country have weak bones that are prone to fracture. Thirty percent of men who fall and break their hipsdiein the first year!

Balance and bone health is serious business for both men and women.

The best way to prevent fracture is not only to build strong bones but practice your balance every day. It is simple. Stand on one leg while you are brushing your teeth, talking on the phone or washing the dishes. Once you’re able to do this with ease, challenge yourself by closing your eyes. You need to be able to stand with your eyes closed for 22 seconds to reduce your risk of falling.

Take 20 Minutes to Burn.

You may be the busiest person around but I know you have 20 minutes to burn! Twenty minutes of mobility a day will decrease your chance of early death by 20 percent.

Try our 20 minute lunch burn this week in your office.

It will save your life. You have the time.
